Iringa, Tanzania
A family, a bird, and the Tanzanian wild
Once upon a time, in the beautiful city of Iringa, Tanzania, there lived a family that shared a deep love and passion for wildlife. They would often embark on family trips to various national parks and reserves throughout Tanzania, where they would immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural world around them. As they explored more of the country's stunning landscapes and wildlife, they began to dream of sharing these experiences with others. It was then that the idea for Oxpecker Tours was born.
With this inspiration in mind, the family founded Oxpecker Tours, a company that offered personalized and unique wildlife experiences throughout Tanzania. The goal was simple: give visitors the chance to witness the incredible beauty of Tanzania's wildlife while learning why conservation and sustainable tourism matter.
As a family-run business, every itinerary is crafted personally — a variety of wildlife in its natural habitat, woven together with the culture and traditions of Tanzania. That care built a reputation, and the reputation built a company that now welcomes travellers from every corner of the world.
In December 2025 the dream grew roots: the family opened Oxpecker Camp & Lodge on the doorstep of Ruaha National Park — stone cottages and thatched bandas built stone by stone, beam by beam, by the same hands that guide the safaris. Today the two businesses run side by side: the tours show you Tanzania, and the camp welcomes you home at the end of the day.

“The oxpecker rides on the back of the buffalo — each keeping the other healthy. That little bird became our symbol of how travel should work: visitors and the wild, better off for having met.”
